Abstract

Aim: We aimed to analyze a case of grief ongoing for many years in women, and detected from their life and clothing style in Imranli District of Sivas. We tried to evaluate this case whether it is a complicated grief process or cultural situation which shows the fact that the social values are stressed and shows respect to the close person who died by wearing black colored cloths although the death occurred many years ago.

Material and Methods: Those persons analyzed within the scope of that case participated in the study from city center and villages of Imranli. Nine women always wearing black colored cloths following the death of a relative participated in the study. As a result of analyses, such 12 women were detected in this region and 9 of them accepted the study negotiation. Face to face negotiations were done self introductory information forms were filled and complicated grief scale was applied.

Results: Complicated grief scale score of the group participating in the study was detected to be between 16 and 45. In only 2 cases, cut off value was detected fewer than 25. No psychiatric disorder was detected in these people. They wear black colored cloths in their daily lives.

Conclusion: We cannot explain the fact that the persons residing in this region wear black colored cloths in their daily lives with complicated grief as respect to the person died many years ago, or as social perspective. Our study has showed that in addition to individual factors, cultural factors are effective in grief process, as well.
