Abstract

In order to determine the factors affecting the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) in simple obese children; we conducted a study in 30 simple obese children (21 males, 9 females) aged 9.13±1.69 years (range 6 to 12 years) and 30 nonobese healthy children (14 males, 16 females) aged 9.13±1.69 years (range 6 to 11 years). ESR, total cholesterol, and triglyceride values of both groups were determined and relationships between these parameters and ESR were investigated. In obese children, ESR, total cholesterol, and triglyceride values were significantly higher than those in control group independent of sex and age (p0.05).
