Some demographic characteristics of married women 15-49 aged and influencing factors to fertility in Yeşilyurt center town of Malatya province

Abstract



This cross-sectional study was performed to determine some demographic characteristic of married women aged 15-49 in Yeşilyurt town center of Malatya Province. Therefore, a questinnaire was administered under supervision to 810 married women in their houses. 20.5% of married women was illiterated and 6% of them was literated, 58% of married women graduated from primary school and also 15.5% women have secondary school or more education. These data are similar to the 1993 Turkish Population and Health Survey (TPHS) figures. Household size was 5.1±1.8 person (it was 4.5 at TPHS). The percentage of nuclear families is 68.5%, 26% is large families and 5.5% is the other forms of family type. The first degree consanquineous marriage of married women is 17.2% with their husband. The first marriage age is 19.1±3.1. Number of pregnancies is 3.6±2.5 and number of live births of married women is 2.7±1.8. Number of induced abortions and spontaneous abortions are both 0.3±1.8 and the interval between first and second births was found as 2.7± 1.8 years. In this study, some independent variables could influence to the dependent variable of which four and more births by accepting as a criteria of over fertility have been examined with the method of backward logistic regression analysis. As the independent factors, number of living children in a negative way, beeing of first marriage age under 20 year, and beeing educational status primary school and the less in a possitive way were determined the influencing factors to over fertility.
