Chronic fatigue syndrome : current concepts

Abstract


 


Chrome fatigue syndrome (Cl'S), a term recently coined for a long-known condition, is characterized by extreme fatigue with other agreed upon criteria sore throat, headaches, and neurological complaints. The illness often has a sudden onset, demonstrable lymi>hadenopathy. low-grade fever and possibly a psychiatric contribution Cl-S has followed clearly documented infections with the E]>stein-Harr virus, cytomegalovirus, human herpesvirus ty/w-6. retroviruses, and exposure to toxins are also apparent precipitating agents Many fiatients have elevated titers of antibodies to a number of viruses, abnormal production, and de/tressed function of natural killer cells.
