The prevalence of diabetes mellitus in people over the age of 40 year in Yeşilyurt district

Abstract


 


This study is a cross-sectional research in which the diabetes prevalence and the influential factors were examined. 1217 people over the age of 40 year in the Yeşilyurt Health Center region participated in this research. Fasting blood glucose was measured on capillary blood with glucometer and was carried out OGTT on participants. The height, weight, and blood pressures were measured and obesity was evaluated by body mass index. In this study which was performed to find the diabetic prevalence in Yeşilyurt population with age > 40 years, diabetic prevalence was found 11.2% in total, 13.6% in female, and 8.7% in males by using NDDG (National Diabetes Data Group) diagnosis criteria. In analysis of data, chi-square test and backward logistic regression analysis were used to show the together effects of independent variables on diabetes. ^s a result of multipl variable analysis, a family history of diabetes (OR= 4.44), age over 60 (OR= 2.52), low physical activity (OR= 2.52), obesity (BMI > 25) (OR= 2.47), restless, and worried character (OR= 2.57) have important effects on diabetes (p
