Investigation on trends of air pollution in Malatya city center in recent five years period

Abstract
In this research, trends of SO2 and particulate matter (PM) were investigated which are accepted as air pollution indicators in Malatya city center between 1992 and 1997 years. A numbers of days that exceed short term limit values, long term limit values and limit values of winter session averages were compared with National Air Pollution Control Statute. Data source is Malatya Public Health Laboratory records. Goal of this research, to determine dimensions and trend of air pollution indicators in recent five years period. In relation to results: 1) out of 1992-1993 winter session, SO2 has not exceeded winter session average values, 2) in 1992-1993 winter session, short term limit value was exceeded 11 times by SO2, 3) between 1992 and 1997, it has not been exceeded warning levels by SO2 and PM, 4) between 1992 and 1997, PM and SO2 have not exceeded long term limit values, 5) in 1992 and 1997 winter session, PM has not exceeded winter session average values, and 6) PM has exceeded short term limit values four times only 1992-1993 winter session.
