Evaluation of the infections during febrile neutropenic episodes in the adult hematology clinic of Turgut Özal Medıcal Center

Abstract
Objectives: In this study, we investigated the infectious agents and foci in febrile neutropenic patients in Adult Hematology Clinic of Turgut Ozal Medical Center.
Material and methods: Seventy-three febrile neutropenic episodes in 41 patients were evaluated.
Results: In 42 febrile neutropenic episodes (58.3%) the microorganism was identified. The infectious foci were urine (n=24), blood (n=13), throat (n=2), wound area (n=1), tip of the catheter (n=1) and sputum (n=1).
Conclusion: The determined infectious agents were E.coli (n=17), Coagulase-negative Staphylococcus (n=10), S. aureus (n=6), S. pneumoniae (n=3), K. pneumoniae (n=2), C. albicans (n=2) and P. aeruginosa (n=1).
