Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infections: Our Clinical Results

Abstract


 

Objective: In this study, we investigated these cases admitted to the clinic with diagnosis of necrotizing fasciitis.

Material and methods: Fourteen cases of necrotizing fasciitis, treated in the our the clinic in a period of three years

were evaluated retrospectively.

Results: There were 9 male (64,3%) and 5 female (35,7%) patients. Eight patients were older than 60 years of age

(mean age: 58,9). Ten patients were diabetic (71,4%), 3 suffered from peripheric vascular disease (21,4%), 2 patients

had malignancy (14,3%) and 2 patients had no predisposing factors (14,3%). Four patients had history of trauma

(28,5%), 6 patients had undergone surgery (42,9%) and 2 patients had pressure sores. In all cases microorganisms

were isolated and surgical debridement was performed. Two patients (14,3%) deceased in the whole group.

Conclusion: Early diagnosis, surgical debridement and intensive care treatment are important in the prognosis of the

necrotizing fasciitis.
