The Positivity of Rotavirus in Children with Suspected Acute Gastroenteritis

Abstract


 

This study was performed to determine the positivity of rotavirus in stool specimens sent to the laboratory for the

rquest of rotavirus detection in children with acute gastroenteritis.

Rotavirus antigen were detected by the latex agglutination test in stool specmens of 250 children. Rotavirus was

determined in 52 (21%) of patient’s specimens. Infection rate peaked in the winter mounths.

Besides bacteriologic and parazitologic detection, rotavirus investigation in diarrheic stools from children with acute

gastroenteritis will be benefical for explanation of the etiology of acute diarrhea in our region.
