Trichomonas intestinalis is a flagellated protozoon which is located especially in the ileocecal part of the human
intestine and it is widespread throughout everywhere in the world. However it is said to cause rarely an
abdominal pain, mucoid diarrhoea periods and some deficiencies in the intestine, some searchers declared as it is
nonpathogen.
Diagnosis of T. intestinalis can be made by way of observing the motile trophozoids in the stool with direct
microscopic examination. And various kinds of methods are sugggested for cultivation of this protozoon.
In this study, the cultivation of T. intestinalis has been tried at CPLM media used widespreadly in the parasitology
laboratories.
T. intestinalis containing stool samples which were examined under light microscope in the Inönü University
Medical Faculty Department of Parasitology were cultivated in the CPLM media and reproduction was checked
every other day. It was observed that the T. intestinalis can survive for 16 days in CPLM culture.
As a result, CPLM medium is available for diagnosis of Intestinal Trichomaniasis and trophozoids may be used in
educational studies.
