Angiotensin II, the effector peptide of the renin angiotensin system, regulates cellular growth in response to
developmental, physiological, and pathological processes. It is well established that Angiotensin II has an important
role in regulating cardiovascular hemodynamics and structure. Multiple lines of evidence have suggested the
existence of at least two distinct Angiotensin II receptor subtypes, as AT1 and AT2 receptors. Most of the known
effects of Angiotensin II in cardiovascular tissues are attributable to the AT1 receptor, but less is known about the
AT2 receptor. AT1 and AT2 receptors may exert opposite effects in terms of cell growth and blood pressure
regulation. Herein, we will discuss the role of the AT2 receptor in the cardiovascular system.
