Poststroke Depression Correlates with Cognitive Impairment

Abstract


Purpose: To compare the relation between depression and cognitive function in stroke cases having at least 3 months disease durationand first stroke .

Methods:We evaluated 70 patients after the third months poststroke period. In these cases, in order to evaluate depression degree, Beck Depression Invantory (BDD), cognitive function Mini Mental State Examination (MMDÖ), functional situation Functional Independence Measurement (FBÖ) and stroke severity NIH measurement were used.

Results: Depression was diagnosed in 8.6% of the patients at 3 months after the stroke. There was a statistically significant difference between the depressive and nondepressive groups in respect to the assessments of MMDÖ and FBÖ (p
