Abstract

Due to the recent improvements in technologic and pharmacologic fields, invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and/or therapeutic approaches are increasingly used outside the operative rooms. The anesthetists should be incorporated and share the responsibility in order to increase the success rates and patient safety, on performing these procedures.

In this study, we aimed to present the used anesthetic techniques and the resultant complications, during October 2002-December 2006 in MR scanning unit for the pediatric cases by our clinic.

1458 pediatric cases were included in the study. We experienced cardiac arrest in three and minor complications such as bradycardia (45), desaturation (98), and prolonged sedation (22) in 168 of these cases.

The anesthetists must be more careful when working outside the operating room. In addition, we believe that the anesthetists should be more active in regulating the physical and technical infrastructure, for patients who will receive anesthesia outside the operating room in order to maintain the safety of the patient and the medical personnel.
