Hemalatha A, Latha Priya A, Vijay Babu K.

Abstract

Background: Antiepileptic activity was observed with an antiarrhythmic beta-blocker. In this context, the present study was designed to demonstrate the effects of nebivolol on the epilepsy experimental model.

Aim and Objective: This study aimed to compare the anticonvulsant activity of sodium valproate and nebivolol on pentylenetetrazole-induced seizure model of Swiss albino mice.

Materials and Methods: Twenty-four male Swiss strain albino mice of either sex were used in this study. The efficacy of nebivolol and sodium valproate was evaluated against pentylenetetrazole-induced seizure model of Swiss albino mice.

Results: The latency of seizure and duration of seizure in rats of Group 1 and Group 2 was significantly higher compared with Group 3 control rats. There was no significant difference in the latency period of Group 1 and Group 2 rats.

Conclusion: Nebivolol exhibited anti-epileptic activity against the pentylenetetrazole mice model.
