Abstract

Orbital trauma is an important cause of ocular mortality among children. Early intervention is vision- saving and removal of all foreign material is advocated. However, retained foreign body is a possible complication, especially in deep- seated injury. We report an interesting case of a child with pencil trauma involving the orbit. Long term management and complications of retained foreign body in the orbit is also discussed. Both parents and caretakers should be made aware of possibility of such trauma, especially in the younger age-group.

Key words: Orbital trauma, foreign body, pencil, children
