Electronic psychiatry: a review and comments on available relevant resources in Nigeria

Abstract

Background The future of world psychiatry tends towards electronic approach, but Nigeria is vet to officially embrace electronic psychiatry
Aim To review the literature on application of information technology in psychiatry as it affects Nigeria.
Method Relevant information from the literature in the library at Neuropsychiatric Hospital. Arc, Abeokuta, Nigeria and electronic literature obtained from the Internet were viewed
Results The review showed that Psychiatry has four pillars, namely, clinical Applications. e-Learning Tools, Lse of Media, and lifetime Health
Record Nigeria has all the required resources for ePsychiatry, except that no organization has been saddled with the responsibility of planning and implementing such.
Conclusion There is a need to set up an organization in Nigeria which shall o v e r s e e t h e p l a n n i n g a n d implementation of ePsychiatry.
