Abstract

Biodiesel was produced by the transesterification reaction of palm kernel oil (PKO) and methanol catalysed by crushed cashew nut shaft (CCNS). Biodiesel samples GA1 – GA4 were produced by the reaction of the palm kernel oil and methanol using cashew nut shell and NaOH as catalyst. After purification, the physico-chemical properties and spectroscopic data of the four samples were found to be similar and compare favourably well to those of standard biodiesel.

Key words: Transesterification, palm kernel oil, cashew nut shell, methanolysis, biodiesel
