ABSTRACT
Background: Trichotillomania is
characterized by the repeated urge
to pull out one's hair, leading to
psychological distress and
functional impairment. It can last for
several years if appropriate
treatment is unavailable.
Methods: This is a clinic-based
description ofTrichotillomania.
Results: A 28 years old married
female who had been having
recurrent hair-pulling for the past 15
years. She was managed using
behavioural techniques first and
thereafter pharmacotherapy via
telecommunication platforms.
Significant changes were observed
a month after the commencement of
therapy and it was noticed to be
s u s t a i n e d 5 m o n t h s a f t e r
disengagement from treatment. The
disorder and the effectiveness of the
virtual treatment offered were
thereafter discussed.
Conclusion: We presented a case
of Trichotillomania, with considered
options of treatment options such as
b e h a v i o u r a l t h e r a p y o r
pharmacotherapy or both.
