Material and Methods: This quantitative study is a descriptive research model. Within the scope of the study, data were obtained from a total of 175 perfusionists. Questionnaire method was used for data collection. The questionnaire was created by the researcher.
Results: Among the perfusionists, 84% stated that there is a protocol in place for each patient in their clinic. On the other hand, 50.9% of perfusionists reported that their clinics did not have a protocol related to the COVID-19 process. Among the perfusionists, 82.3% stated that patients were tested for COVID-19 before open heart surgery. The majority of perfusionists (59.4%) stated that the measures taken in their clinics regarding COVID-19 were adequate. 19.4% of the participants reported that the most tangible problem experienced during the COVID-19 period was the risk, fear and anxiety of transmission of the COVID-19 virus. As a result of our study, 53.6% of perfusionists working in university hospitals, 44.6% of those working in state hospitals, and 35.2% of those working in private hospitals reported that the number of COVID-19 cases in 2020 was 151 or more, and a significant relationship was found between the institution and the number of COVID-19 cases.
Conclusion: In the light of the results obtained from our study, it was observed that there was a lack of protocols regarding the COVID-19 process in the clinics of perfusionists, and the most important problem experienced by perfusionists during the COVID-19 period was the risk, fear and anxiety of transmission of the COVID-19 virus. In conclusion, although it was observed that the pandemic period affected the attitudes of perfusionists, more studies on the subject are needed.
