The awareness of non-cosmetic operations performed by the plastic surgeon among the general population and their attitude towards plastic surgery in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: a cross-sectional study

Abstract

Background: Plastic and reconstructive surgery is a distinct and little-understood surgical subspecialty. Both the general public and professionals are confused about the scope of the specialty. The purpose of this study was to measure the awareness and perception among the general population in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, regarding the discipline of plastic surgery and the non-cosmetic operations performed by plastic surgeons.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among the general population of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, aged 18 years and older through an online, self-administered questionnaire prepared by using Google Forms and distributed to the community via a social media application.
