EFFECT OF AN INDIGENOUS HERBO-MINERAL COMPOUND PREPARATION AROGYAWARDHANI ON LIVER IN EXPERIMENTAL RATS

Abstract
Arogyawardhani is a herbo-mineral compound preparation credited to be a good appetiser, digestive, cardia-tonic, antihypercholesteremic and bowels evacuator by various authors of Ayurvedic texts. In the recent past, various, clinical trials has evolved this drug, as an important remedy for various liver disorders. It is now confidently being used in the management of sluggish liver, for the treatment of acute viral hepatitis and post-cholecystectomy syndrome. In the present study, it was found that it increases the bile flow and liver weight in experimental albino rats which suggests that it has stimulatory effect on microsomal enzymes of the liver.
