EFFECT OF PTEROCARPUS MARSUPIUM ROXB EXfRACT AND YOGIC PRACTICES ON INSULIN DEPENDENT DIABETICS

Abstract

Effect of Yogic exercises, oral administration of drug twater soluble extract of Pterocarp~'J marsupium Roxb. at a dose of 3 ounces from 150 gms. of crude drug per day in three divided doses in the form of decoction and the drug with yogic exercises on blood sugar level and blood level of certain neurohumon in three separate groups of 10 insulin dependent diabetics (21 to 30 years) was investigated. The drug alone and the drug with yogic exercises showed significant decrease in blood sugar levels (both fasting and two hours post-prandial). whereas in the patients treated with yogic exercises alone blood sugar levels (both fasting and post-prandial) showed light fall. No change in blood level of estimated neurohumors was observed before and after the thefRPY. Role of yogic exercises and the drug in the treatment of insulin dependent diabetics is discussed.
