STANDARDISATION OF ARQ KEORA AND ARQ GULAB (UNANI MEDICINES)

A.H. ISRAILI.

Abstract

Arq Keora and Arq Gulab carry medicinal properties and they are widely used in the Unani and Ayurvedic systems of medicines for their cardiotonic, exhilerent and cooling effects. These Arqs are also used for flavouring sweets and confectionery. But there is no known standard by which the quality and purity of these Arqs could be checked. An adulterated and diluted Arq does not carry the medicinal effects as compared to standard Arqs. A few samples of Arq Koera and Arq Gulab were tested in Hamdard (Wakf) Laboratories. The results of the study are presented in the paper and suitable methodology for testing the Arqs has been suggested.

Key words: STANDARDISATION, ARQ KEORA, ARQ GULAB, UNANI, MEDICINES
