Effect of Mono Metal Doping of ZnWO4 Nanoparticles with Sodium, Magnesium and Titanium

Hassana Ladio Abubakar,Hadiza Adamu Dawi,Chinomso Roselyn Odimba.

Abstract

Sol-gel synthesized Zinc Tungstate Nanoparticles (ZnWO4) were subjected to metal doping using sodium, magnesium and titanium. This research involved the utilization of the wet impregnation method as well as variation of the concentration of each dopant ions at 1%, 3%, 5% and 7% respectively. The resulting nanocomposite materials were characterized using HRTEM, SAED and XRD spectroscopy, and according to the results obtained, regardless of the concentration, results obtained revealed the presence of bright spots and lattice fringes which clearly indicate relatively high crystallinity for the Na, Mg and Ti doped ZnWO4 nanocomposites, which corroborates with the XRD patterns for each nanocomposite material. According to XRD analysis, ZnWO4 nanoparticles formed were highly crystalline, monoclinic in phase with a reduced crystallite size in all the samples analysed. The results of the characterization revealed that doping was successful at improving the efficiency of the synthesized ZnWO4 nanoparticles. A major recommendation for this study is to test the efficiency of doping ZnWO4 with two or more metal ions at a time.

Key words: ZnWO4 nanoparticles, doping, sol-gel method
