MENOPAUSAL OSTEOPOROSIS - AN AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE

Abstract
With the increase in longevity the ratio of menopausal: other age group of women is changing fast. Menopause, an absolutely normal physiological event invites number of psychosomatic problems, amongst which most debilitating is menopausal osteoporosis causing fractures of hip or thigh bones. It is expected that by 2010 number of women suffering from osteoporosis in USA may rise to above 50-60% population of aged women, India a developing country is also not lagging very much behind. The drugs invented so far do not fulfill criteria of wanted effects i.e. safety, efficacy etc., naturally it is the need of time to explore âyurveda for a remedy.
