Objective: To evaluate the frequency of clinical risk factors for COVID-19 in patients admitted to Valiasr Hospital in Qaemshahr.
Methodology: In this descriptive cross-sectional study conducted at Valiasr Hospital in Qaemshahr, cases of patients with COVID-19 from March 2020 to November 2020 were examined. Severity, and underlying conditions were assessed.
Results: The study included a predominantly male population (53.1%), with average of 63 years. Symptom severity varied, with 51.9% experiencing moderate symptoms. Common underlying conditions contributing to disease severity were diabetes (42.7%), blood pressure issues (39.3%), and cardiovascular diseases (33.5%). The mortality rate was 25.9%, with the highest death rate among patients with severe symptoms (72.5%) and those hospitalized in the ICU (45.6%).
Conclusion: Older age, male gender, and prolonged disease duration were identified as factors associated with a higher likelihood of severe COVID-19 cases, increased chances of ICU hospitalization, and elevated mortality rates, especially for individuals with underlying health conditions.
