Abstract

Conversion aphonia otherwise known as psychogenic aphonia which is a type of conversion disorder is typically a diagnostic enigma for many practitioners due to its varying presentation. After ruling out organic causes, many such cases are referred to psychiatry for further management. Here, in this case series, we present three such cases of sudden loss of voice and its successful management. After ethical committee clearance, three consenting patients of sudden loss of voice are reported in this study. Conversion aphonia is a challenging case not only because of its peculiar presentation but also because after ruling out all organic causes this diagnosis can be made.

Key words: Conversion Disorder; Aphonia; Depression
