Abstract

A few prospective studies evaluated the oxidative stress variables and adenosine deaminase activity in patients with hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. Thus; we aimed to investigate oxidative stress variables and adenosine deaminase activity in patients with hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. Study populations consisted of 20 patients with hyperthyroidism, 20 patients with hypothyroidism and 20 age matched healthy volunteers as control groups. Plasma nitric oxide, malondialdehyde levels and glutathione, adenosine deaminase activities were measured in all subjects. plasma nitric oxide and adenosine deaminase levels were higher in patients with hyperthyroidism, but lower in patients with hypothyroidism compared to those of controls (P
