In this study, the so called new economic geography that has included the spatial dimension into the mainstream economics, is investigated in terms of the assumptions and theoretical principles of modelling and policy conclusions are evaluated from the perspectives of economic development. Furthermore the research agenda of the new economic geography, namely the spatial distribution of economic activities and regional convergence is discussed after the canceptual framework of this new approach, which is based on the grounds of increasing returns and externalities and then regional growth and development policy implications are summarized.
