This article is an attempt to deal with the question of "modern organization" by focusing on what has co me to be known as "globalization". It maps the theories of globalization to explore the impact of the economic, political and cultural processes of globalization on democracy. By arguing that globalization creates the legitimacy problem of representative democracy, the article calls for the need to establish an institutional b as is for participatory democracy. This constitutes a theoretical and analytical framework to analyze critically the problem of organization in modern societies. The article suggests that globalization provides only a starting point to restructure organization theory in concordance with the changing social structures of modern societies. In this sense, the overall aim of the article is to link together the questions of globalization and modern organization in a critical manner.
