Abstract

Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a parasitic disease, which is very common in Turkey, caused by the larvae of Echinococcus granulosus, which can cause mainly liver, lung and rarely other organ and tissues involvement.
Case: Our case, A 50-year-old male patient, presented with complaints of abdominal pain and fever. The findings were evaluated and it was seen that he had been operated for CE rupture in his history. When the laboratory findings and physiological and radiological examination were performed, 10.5 cm of CE was observed in the spleen on computed tomography (CT), and a separation was found between the membranes and capsule of the cyst. The patient underwent laparotomy and was discharged on the 3rd postoperative day. In the first month of the follow-up, the patient was admitted to the polyclinic again with the complaint of abdominal pain. On physical examination, defense was detected in the left upper quadrant. On computed tomography, it was determined that the cystıc echınococcosıs capsule was reorganized to form a thin wall of 101 X 96.6 mm in the lower and middle parts of the spleen. Splenectomy was performed in the patient who was diagnosed with recurrent CE. The patient was discharged on the 4th postoperative day.
