Abstract
Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) belongs to the group of spondyloarthropathies (SpAs) and is one of the common rheumatic diseases. It is characterized by inflammatory stiffening of the spine, affecting the cartilaginous joints, sacroiliac joints and the axial skeleton. There are several treatments available in bio - medicine for this disorder such as the NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) Glucocorticoids, Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs (DMARDs), immunosuppression therapies. In these instances, several Panchakarma procedures have shown to be beneficial. The Ayurvedic method aims to reduce disability while easing symptoms. There is no direct reference to the disease in Ayurveda. AS can be compared to some extent with Ama vata, or Gambhira vatarakta, or Asthi-majjagata vata, but based on the clinical picture, and Amavata Chikitsa can be planned. Here we discuss case of 23 years old male patient diagnosed with HLA-B27 positive that was effectively treated with Panchakarma for a period of 3 months.
