Objective: To evaluate the perceived stress and coping skills of medical students during COVID-19 pandemic.
Methodology: This cross-sectional study included 246 students at RMU and Riphah International University. A finalized questionnaire was disseminated among the students via WhatsApp. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22 and independent t-test and non-parametric test were used for comparison of two groups.
Results: A greater percentage of Riphah students had high stress as compared to RMU. Most of RMU students had moderate stress. Their coping skills varied, involving both positive and negative, and most of them were satisfied by their institute’s response to manage the crisis.
Conclusion: Stress is one of the major factors hindering medical student performance and the coping mechanisms adapted for dealing with it also control the outcome. Developing a resilient attitude towards stress depends upon students’ own efforts plus support by their institutes.
