Abstract

The present study aims to evaluate the pharmacognostic, physicochemical, spectroscopic analysis which includes total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, high performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC), antioxidant activity, antiurolithiatic activity, total microbial load of the in-house and marketed samples of Vaishwanara Churna. The study intends to highlight the variations observed between the in-house and two marketed samples of Vaishwanara Churna. The comparative standardization of IHVC, TVC, and SVC was performed based on pharmacognostic evaluation, physicochemical evaluation and phytochemical screening. The total phenolic content was found highest in TVC viz.161.57±5.426 mg GAE/g. The highest flavonoid content was found to be 82.67±6.549 mg QUE/g in SVC. The sample also shows good antioxidant activity which was indicated by three antioxidant methods. Antiurolithiatic activity was found to be dose dependent. HPTLC fingerprint technique showed that SVC has highest concentration of gallic acid.

Key words: Standardization, TPC, TFC, Antiurolithiatic, HPTLC, Vaishwanara Churna.
