Antimicrobial resistance in Saudi Arabia: a review for immediate action and solution

Abstract

Antibiotics have been known to be the most effective treatment of bacterial infection. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of bacteria is rapidly spreading globally. The current dependence on antibiotics led to an increase in the resistance of bacteria. Immediate action should be considered for the health problem as AMR can have severe consequences on the life of patients. Online research was used to obtain the articles related to the current subject. Researching process involved searching through scientific websites using several keywords to obtain all possible articles related to the current subject. A total of 27 articles were obtained according to inclusion criteria, of which only 10 articles were included. Several policies were implemented to reduce the AMR problem, including the stewardship program. However, education and training on such a program should be performed for healthcare providers.
