The School Admission Tests in Germany and the Adaptation of the Kiel School Admission Test

Ayşe Nur KUTLUCA CANBULAT,Mehmet CANBULAT.

Abstract

The aim of this study is two-fold. First, it presents the adaptation of The Kiel School Admission Test which is used in Germany, similar to other European countries, to determine the school readiness of newcomers to primary school in terms of linguistic, physical, social, affective and cognitive skills. Second, it discusses the admission applications in Germany. Prior to the administration of the test, a language validity study was carried out by two language experts to ensure that the Turkish version complied with the original German version. The test is not an achievement test therefore its application reliability was evaluated. Different decisions of the observers and video recordings were used as a reliability index.

Key words: The school admission test, skills, language validity and reliability
