The importance of amateur musical education in individual, social and cultural development of a child, problems and suggestions for solutions

Abstract

This research was carried out to determine the importance of amateur musical education in individual, social and cultural development of a child and its effect on children, and by analysing the problems, to suggest solutions to carry out amateur musical education more effectively. The study tried to analyse the relation between education and music (amateur) education, child development and education, and to answer why amateur musical education is necessary. The relation between child development and musical education and child development and amateur musical education are among the subjects in the study. The study also tried to determine the effects of amateur musical education on individual, social and cultural development of a child through a research to determine the changes in during the process of amateur musical education provided for them by their families. In this respect, interview forms were prepared and interviews were conducted with eight families who were asked to tell about the changes they saw in their children. The research showed that amateur musical education is very crucial in individual, social and cultural development of children of 7-12 years old. In addition, the research also showed that besides its contribution to child development, amateur musical education also has an important function of raising awareness of Turkish families and society about musical education.
