The Critical Reading Skills of Primary School Students According to Gender Differences and Educational Level of Their Fathers and Mothers

Abstract
This study was intended to investigate the critical reading levels of the 5th class students according to gender differences and educational background of their family. A total of 185 5th grade students who were chosen randomly from the students of primary schools in Bursa were participated in the study. This was regarded as a descriptive study. Data was collected by a critical reading scale which determines the critical reading skills of students developed by Ünal (2006). Significance of the difference between genders and family educational background was examined with t-test and One-Way Anova test. According to the results of the study, critical reading skills of students havent increased with the family educational background but there is a meaningful difference between genders in favor of the girls.
