The Predictors of Loneliness in Adolescents

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the important factors -shyness, social anxiety, and selfesteem- influencing loneliness level of adolescents. Descriptive method was used in this study. Participants were
600 high school students in Mugla, Turkey. Data were analyzed using statistical techniques. The findings
showed that the shyness, social anxiety, and self-esteem important predictors of loneliness. The results are
discussed in the light of previous findings and in the context of loneliness, shyness, social anxiety, and selfesteem, providing a guide for future research and applications as well.
