Evaluation of 6th Grade Science Textbook Published by the Turkish Ministry of Education in Terms of Science Process Skills

Abstract

In many developed countries, science textbooks have got some features of improving students’ science process skills. In this study, 6th grade science textbook published by Turkish Ministry of Education was evaluated in terms of science process skills. Activities in this textbook involve in twelve science process skills with certain percentages. Some basic science process skills such as classifying, predicting and communicating and constructing hypotheses are less than the others. The profile of science process skills in all activities is not systematic. However it is the textbook that is improvable for the science education with science
process skills. Science textbooks written by Ministry of National Education or private companies are revised and approved by Chairmanship of Training Committee by considering a lot of criteria. In this study, it was aimed at adding science process skills to those criteria effectively.
