Pre-service teachers’ opinions about school experience 1 course

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine students’ opinions about school experience I course based on a sample selected among first year students of elementary education department in Uşak faculty of education. According to this study, school experience 1 course, offered in the second semester of first year in collages of education and mandated by National Education Improvement Project supported by Higher Education Council and World Bank, is a useful course. However, there are serious problems, that should be solved. Some of those serious problems are: Strengthening school-university collaborations, a better selection process of teachers who guide pre-service teachers in schools, choosing university advisors among those who had teaching experience in public schools, reviewing activities of the course to make those activities more appropriate for educational settings and finally reducing the number of students per university advisor guiding per-service teachers. From this perspective, school experience 1 course in collages of education curriculum is a significant course but according to results of this study it should be reviewed regularly
