Ventilator-associated pneumonia rates and distribution of causative microorganisms in the second stage intensive care unit

Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is the most important and common infection affecting patients ventilated with mechanical ventilators in intensive care units (ICU). VAP is defined as incubation-free pneumonia at 48-72 hours after endotracheal intubation. This retrospective study included adult patients (> 18 years old) who were hospitalized in our hospital’s General ICU between January 2018 and December 2019. According to the culture results, the patients were divided into two groups as VAP developing and non-VAP.
