Factors lnfluencing Mortality in Major Abdominal Vascu/ar Travma

Abstract

A retrospective study was planned to identifity the factors respom;ible frbm mortality and morbidity in 53 patients that were operated on an emergency basis at the Aegean University Medicil Faculty at the Department of Surgery due to trauma of major abdominal vascular structures between years 1984-1993. Overall mortality was % 50.9, and pres­ ence of shock (p> 0.05) and inconsciousness (P> 0.01) during admission to the emergency servise, the type of vas­ cular repair performed (P> 0.05), and the venous type of vascular traumas (P> 0.01) were found to be associated with higher rates of mortality and morbidity.
