Abstract
Carotid endarterectomies (CE) are performed in order to prevent strokes and dealths related to cerebrovascular diseases. There is a consensus in performing CE in smypthomatic patients white, it is debatable in asympthomatic ones. Between the years 10/87 to 10/92 in Marienhospital-Hamm, 513 carotid endarterectomies were carried out with one perioperative dealth (0.19 %). 5 patients suffered (0.97 %) transient neurologic deficit, with no long term sequa lae.
By this meens, correct indications and, meticulous technique results with excellent'outcome.
