Abstract

Objective: To compare the corneal endothelial cell density (ECD) in low, moderate, and higher myopes.
Methodology: This comparative cross-sectional study included 129 non-pathological eyes (43 eyes in each group; mild, moderate, and high myopes) and was conducted at Mayo Hospital, Lahore from May 2018 to May 2019. Patients with refractive errors other than myopia like nystagmus, strabismus, ocular and systemic pathologies were excluded. Patients with myopia up to -15D were included in the study. Corneal ECD was measured by non-contact specular microscope.
Results: Mean age of subjects was 24.82±6.712 years (females: 23.63±5.36 years; males: 26.24 ±7.84 years). Mean spherical equivalent of mild, moderate, and high myopes were -1.22 ± 0.74 D, -3.95 ± 0.64D and -9.46 ± 3.09 D, respectively. The mean corneal ECD was 2829.47±168.014 cells/mm2, 2774.12±243.27 cells/mm2 and 2668.56±216.45 cells/mm2 (p
