Personality Disorders in Patients with Migraine and Tension Headache

Abstract
Objective: In this study, we aimed to investigate the rates of personality disorders in patients with migraine and tension headache compared to healthy controls. Methods: Patients who were referred with headache are recruited in the study from the Neurology Outpatient Department of Bakirkoy Teaching and Research Hospital for Psychiatry and Neurology, Istanbul. 45 patients with migraine, 41 with tension headache and 39 normal volunteers made up the sample. Sociodemographical Form, SCID-II, Detailed Headache Assessment Form were used. Results: 58.1 % of the migraine, 53.8 % of the tension headache group, and 17.9 % of the healthy controls had a personality disorder 26.7 % of the migraine, 22 % of the tension headache group had paranoid personality disorder. 24.4 % of the tension headache, 11.1 % of the migraine group and 2.6 % of the control group had an obsessive compulsive personality disorder. Conclusion: The paranoid and obsessive compulsive personality disorders were seen more in both of the headache patients then controls.
