Arachnoid Cyst and Psychotic Disorder: A Case Report

Abstract

Arachnoid cyst accompanied by psychiatric disorders. Is rarely presented as a case report. A 14 year-old male patient, with auditory and visual hallucinations, reference and suicidal thoughts, absurd behaviors and dizziness. An arachnoid cyst in the supracerebellar region of brain was determined by MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging). Endocrine system and EEG, routine biochemical laboratory screening were found normally. It was thought that psychotic symptoms were associated with the arachnoid cyst. The patient was giyen antipsychotic medication with low dose risperidone (1 mg/day) and an improvement was observed in psychotic symptoms one month later.
