The theory of the nature of the dream work, which Freud developed in "The Interpretation of Dreams", became the fundamental description of the operation of unconscious processes that stands even today, in regard to the basic mechanisms and the manner of their operation, as an unsurpassed and fundamental account of unconscious mental functioning. The dream work consists of five processes: Condensation, displacement, considerations of representability, symbolization, and secondary revision.
