Abstract | | | Cited by 0 Articles | Objective: To assess the levels of interleukins TNF-alpha in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (pTB).
Methodology: Sixty patients with pTB who were hospitalized in the province of Hilla-Babylon provided whole blood samples from March 2019 to February 2020. The patients' ages ranged from 15 to 70 years, and there were 31 male and 29 females. TNF-alpha levels, CMV-IgG levels, and CMV-IgM levels were estimated using the ELISA method.
Results: TNF-alpha serum levels in pTB patients were substantially higher (p˂0.05) than in the healthy group (35.4) pg/ml, with an average of 68.90 pg/ml. Mean serum level of CMV-IgG was 72.44 pg/ml and was considerably higher (p˂0.05) in patients with pTB than in the healthy group (37.85 pg/ml). Mean of serum concentration of CMV-Ig M )0.153) pg/ml and was not substantially higher (p˃0.05) in individuals with pTB compared to control group (0.127) pg/ml.
Conclusion: TNF-alpha serum levels and serum level of CMV-IgG was high in pTB patients.
Key words: Pulmonary tuberculosis, TNF-α , CMV-IgG , CMV-IgM, ELISA Test.
