The difficulty and complexity associated with the management of pain are related to side effects, efficacy and cost of current agents used in its management. We exploited some natural product resources in Africa in a bid to provide alternatives to the current agents used in pain management. We extracted the seeds of Adansonia digitata using methanol. We screened the fractions for phytochemicals, acute toxicity and analgesic properties using the tail-flick and hot plate methods. The phytochemical analysis of the seed powder revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids and steroids. Oral LD50 did not reveal any toxicity in mice at doses ranging from 10-5000 mg/kg.
